WILLIAMSON, NY….News continues to come from the Spencer Speedway management team, as a tentative schedule for the 2010 NASCAR season has been posted on the speedway website, www.spencerspeedway.org. The first of two practice sessions will be underway on the new asphalt surface is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., on Friday, May 7th.
“It will be important for the teams to come out and run on the new surface before the season racing starts,” stated promoter John White. “They need to see the changes and the track needs a coat of rubber put down.” A second “test and tune” session is planned for the following Friday, May 14th.
The season is scheduled to kick off on Friday, May 21, with a 100-lap SST Modified main event. Most weeks the NASCAR Sunoco Race Fuels Modifieds will be joined by the Street Stocks, Super Sixes and the Auto Value Four-Cylinder Scorpion divisions.
A quick scan of the schedule also reveals three Legend Car races; June 11th, July 23th and August 13th. Also there will again be two stops for the Sunoco Race of Champions Modified Tour cars; June 18th and September 3rd. The new rules for each of the main regular divisions at the speedway can also be found on the Spencer Speedway website.
“We have been working hard to help improve the car counts in the Street Stock division,” added White. “Our goal is to at least double last year’s field by mid-season.”
The new Auto Value Scorpion class got off to a big start in 2009 and by mid-season a break down between “beginners” and “professionals” was created. The expectation is an increase in the field again this year. A familiar name joins the Spencer Speedway Tech team in 2010. Former track champion, Sonny Barron, will add his expertise to the team.
“We are please to have Sonny onboard. Sonny has a long history in racing,” commented White. “He has raced in the Street Stocks, Sunoco Race Fuels Modifieds and Whelen Tour Type Modifieds. He is well renowned as an engine builder in the area. His presence can only help us in the “Tech Barn” on a weekly basis.”
Spencer Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester, NY, along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson. Spencer Speedway is the local “NASCAR Place to Race” for upstate New York. Points earned each week at Spencer are counted into the national NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship.
