Katie Germano is the first Webster student ever to be awarded the West Point Society Leadership Award. Fifty-eight high schools were asked to submit a maximum of two candidates for the honor.Germano submitted her paperwork and essays and learned in June 2009 that she was one of only six chosen as a finalist for the civic award. The finalists visited the Irondequoit Country Club on December 12 to watch the Army versus Navy football game, during which a panel of West Point members interviewed them. At half-time it was announced that the Webster Schroeder senior received the West Point Society Leadership Award.
Mark Preston, of West Point Society of Rochester, visited Germano on January 21 at Webster Schroeder to present her with the $100 scholarship and the engraved 12-inch square by 18-inch high trophy, which has been passed for years from recipient's school to recipient's school. The trophy is on display at Webster Schroeder High School until next year's award is determined.
The West Point Society of Rochester consists of Rochester area graduates, friends of graduates, and future graduates of the United States Military Academy, and is organized to provide support to the West Point admissions process and a social and professional network of USMA graduates in the Rochester area.
