From May through August 2010, health professionals from St. Ann’s Community will present interactive seminars at The Heritage. Seminars are free and open to the public, and will run from 3:00 – 4:00pm on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The Heritage (1450 Portland Avenue) is located on St. Ann’s Irondequoit campus, across the street from Rochester General Hospital. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP to 585-697-6507. Topics will be:
Be Safe Accident Prevention (Wednesday, May 26): Attendees will learn methods to: prevent dizziness, maintain muscle mass and bone strength, cope with slight memory loss, prevent choking, maintain safety in a shower or tub, safely get up after a fall and much more. Presenters include St. Ann’s Chief Clinical Dietician, Rehabilitation Services Coordinator, Occupational Therapy Coordinator and Speech-Language Pathologist.
Food & Drug Interactions (Wednesday, June 23): Some common foods (like grapefruit juice) can interact with many medications. Attendees will learn about these interactions from St. Ann’s Director of Pharmacy and Chief Clinical Dietician.
Heart Attack & Stroke Prevention (Wednesday, July 28): Time is essential! Attendees will learn the early signs and symptoms of heart attack and stroke, and the benefits of early intervention. St. Ann’s Director of Rehabilitation and Chief Clinical Dietician will also explain what measures can be taken to prevent and manage heart disease.
Diabetes Management (Wednesday, August 25): St. Ann’s Certified Diabetes Educator will explain how to: read food labels, control blood/glucose levels with nutrition, and fit fiber, sodium and lesser known nutrients (like glucans) into one’s diet.
