This purchase includes:
• A 28,844 square foot fitness and office building that will house a gymnasium, fitness equipment, men’s and women’s locker rooms, plus plenty of space for programs provided by the Parks and Recreation Department.• Two more buildings on Route 250; one is a 2,100 square foot barn, and a garage which will allow the Parks Department to store their equipment inside, thus avoiding vandalism, plus provide our Parks staff with a new energy efficient office facility.
Last week’s winter storm interrupted the timetable for our Parks and Recreation staff to complete the move from Ridgecrest to the new building on Chiyoda Drive off of Phillips Road. While the staff is still in the process of moving, I am asking the public to please have patience and give our employees time to settle in and get regular programs up and running.
This purchase also adds another 53 acres to our Open Space Plan. The Town Board cannot wait for the community to experience the outdoor trails through this new piece of property that will connect up with the crest across from Route 250.
In the near future there will be an open house at the new fitness building and the public will be invited to visit and enjoy the new facility. I will provide further details in a future column in the Webster Herald.
Because of the lack of space at our new facility the town has relocated some existing programs to other locations.
The Town Board is also looking into what other options there are regarding the closing of Ridgecrest in mid-March. The public will be apprised of what final decisions are made.
