Penfield, New York - July 15, 2010 -- Andrea Chamberlain, a local Penfield resident, recently found out that her blog, The Creative Junkie, has been nominated for Nickelodeon’s 2010 Parents’ Picks for Best Parenting Blog and no one is more surprised than she.
“I’m honored! But honestly, my first thought was that someone inhaled. Deeply,” exclaimed Andrea Chamberlain, a wife, stay-at-home mom and the snarky voice behind www.thecreativejunkie.com. “The only thing Dora the Explorer and I have in common is that we’re both short. I’m pretty sure Dora would never consider strapping her kids to the roof of her Durango to make room for IKEA loot.”
Chamberlain started blogging over two years ago and the moment she clicked the “publish” button andher story of how she married her tall, dark, handsome rebound guy went public on her blog, she washooked. Since then, her blog posts have run the gamut from naming her cold sores to providing marriageadvice to publishing an open letter addressed to stupid people in parking lots. “It’s not SpongeBob but I do try to find the humor in the everyday ordinary. I’m raising a pre-tween, a teenager and a husband who once paid $80 online for a Chia Pet. It’s either laugh or bash my skull against a brick wall and laughter is a lot less bloody.
I’m excited that Nickelodeon appreciates this fact, even though Dora will probably never
friend me on Facebook.”
Despite her surprise at the nomination, Andrea Chamberlain is flattered to be recognized by Nickelodeon for her self-deprecating humor and sees it as a nod to women bloggers everywhere who embrace imperfection as an alternative lifestyle.
